    Houston Christian (HC) is accepting applications for the position of Director of Business Affairs. The Director of Business Affairs, under the direction of the  Head of School, supervises the financial and facilities transactions and processes for the School. The Director of Business Affairs is the chief financial officer of the School and a principal leader in areas of operations, financial strategy, and policy.  The Director of Business Affairs is a member of the Administrative Team and is a thought-partner as well as a hands-on participative manager leading teams of personnel in the areas of accounting, financial operations, business planning, human resources, administration, facilities management, risk management, and other operational and administrative services including health services and food services. This position assists and reports to the Head of School, supervises the Business Office, Facilities, and Clinic teams, and works in collaboration with all administrators, staff,  and faculty.  This is a full-time and exempt position.

    QUALIFICATIONS:
    • Bachelor’s Degree required,  CPA preferred.
    • Minimum five years of overall broad financial and operations management experience, Experience with  not-for-profit organizations preferred.
    • Accounting management skills required.
    • Ability to translate financial concepts to and effectively collaborate with other administrators in areas of admissions, marketing, fundraising, and education.
    • Proficient in basic technology applications (i.e. MS Word, Excel). Google Apps knowledge is beneficial (i.e. Google Drive, Google Docs, Gmail).
    • Strong interpersonal and supervisory skills.
    • Must be self-starting and able to multitask. Excellent verbal, visual, written, and interpersonal communication skills are required. A successful track record in setting priorities, keen analytical, organization and problem solving skills and in sound decision-making.

     Job Description:

    Director of Business Affairs
    Houston Christian High School

     TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
    1. Daily hours are variable. Office hours are to be 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. as duties permit. The Director of Business Affairs is expected to be available to faculty, administrators, support staff and Head of School, as needed.  Occasional evening and weekend work may be required.
    2. This is a full-time, exempt position.  Salary is based upon experience and qualifications and is paid in semi-monthly installments.
    3. Fringe benefits include premiums paid for employee’s group hospitalization insurance (less employee paid portion), life insurance, social security, and eligibility for retirement plan participation.
    4. Paid holidays coincide with teachers’ holidays during the school year. Vacation is per Faculty/Staff Handbook and is scheduled and agreed upon between the employee and supervisor.
    5. Sick leave, personal business, and absence benefits are as per Faculty/Staff Handbook.
    REPORTS TO: Head of School

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    The Director of Business Affairs supervises the financial and facilities transactions and processes for the School. The Director of Business Affairs is the chief financial officer of the School and a principal leader in areas of operations, financial strategy, and policy.  With direction and guidance of the  Head of School, the Director of Business Affairs fulfills responsibilities, serves as a member of the Administrative Team and is a thought-partner as well as a hands-on participative manager leading teams of personnel in the areas of accounting, financial operations, business planning, human resources, administration, facilities management, risk management, and other operational and administrative services including health services and food services. This position assists and reports to the Head of School, supervises the Business Office, facilities, and clinic teams, and works in collaboration with all administrators, staff,  and faculty.  This is a full-time and exempt position.

    FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Oversee and lead annual budgeting and planning processes, administer and review all financial plans and budgets, monitor progress and changes, and keep the Administrative Team abreast of the School’s financial status.
    • Analyze and present financial reports in an accurate and timely manner.
    • Coordinate and lead the annual financial audit process.
    • Liaise with the external auditors and the finance committee. 
    • Manage cash flow and cash forecasting, manage investment and endowment pools.
    • Oversee contracts and a robust contracts management system to ensure that contractual billing and collections are followed.
    • Update and implement all necessary business policies and processes and accounting practices as well as the policies and procedural manuals.
    • Effectively communicate and present critical financial matters in a timely manner to the Head of School and Board of Trustees.
    ADDITIONAL MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITIES:
    • Directly supervise the Facilities Manager and the maintenance/security/custodial functions. Manage school property and insurance programs, advising the Head of School and Board of any changes.
    • Liaise with contractors and the Facilities Committee for all renovation, replacement and construction projects.
    • Manage facilities usage by third parties as a revenue source including risk management, contracts, and fees.
    • Acquire and manage equipment leases and maintenance.
    • Directly supervise the school health services personnel and oversee all policies and procedures regarding health and physical safety.
    • Solicit, review and/or prepare bid specifications, obtain bids or price quotations, tabulate bids, and execute contracts as prescribed by Board policy.
    • Develop and administer a program for purchasing all supplies, materials and equipment in a responsible, cost effective and accurate manner.
    • Directly supervise the Human Resources Manager and lead annual benefit plans and policies changes.  Enhance compensation and benefits through research and strategic initiatives.   
    • Oversee the preparation of annual employee contracts and compensation letters in conjunction with recommendations for continuance by the Head of School and Principal.
    • Oversee the process of application and awarding of Indexed Tuition, with involvement and input from the Principal and Director of Admissions.  Research and design the program and the process to maximize net tuition and enrollment goals.
    • Meet and deal effectively and transparently with parents, employees, trustees, and third-party vendors and consultants.
    • Assist the technology team with the selection and procurement of resources and training, with particular attention to opportunities using grant funds for procurement.  Select and oversee software installations where appropriate and organize staff training in certain applications especially in reducing risk of cyber threats.
    • Research financial and management topics and related legal issues for the purposes of evaluating compliance requirements and potential implications on operations
    • Follow federal and state laws and board policies.
    • Serve as resource person to the Head of School and Board of Trustees in matters pertaining to federal, state and local regulations, School policy, and best practices. Align recommendations pertaining to school policy and major financial decisions first with the Head of School’s leadership.
    • Provide input into school-wide decisions with the Admin Team when appropriate.
    • Fulfill the expectations for staff members as stated in the Faculty/Staff Handbook, including a vital, personal faith in Jesus Christ.
    • Perform other duties as assigned by the Head of School.
    QUALIFICATIONS:
    • Bachelors’ Degree required,  CPA preferred.

  • Development Associate for Alumni Relations

    Development Associate for Alumni Relations 
     
    Houston Christian is accepting applications for the position of Development Associate for Alumni Relations. The Development Associate is responsible for creating a robust and meaningful Alumni Association, identifying and working with key alumni to lead HC’s alumni activities, building an Alumni Association Board, and engaging alumni in the HC community, along with supporting the Development Department with  Campaigns. This is a full-time, 12 month, exempt position. The Development Associate works in collaboration with the Development team members and the Communications/Marketing  and Admissions Departments and reports to the Director of Development. This position is open for immediate hire. 
     
    QUALIFICATIONS:
    • Bachelor’s Degree required 
    • 2 or more years experience in Development operations
    • Communicates comfortably with school representatives, parents, students, alumni, and representatives from the business community 
    • Self-starting and able to multitask.
    • Can work independently and collaboratively
    • Superior verbal and written communication skills and interpersonal skills.

  • Development Senior Associate

    Development Senior Associate
     
    Houston Christian is accepting applications for Development Senior Associate. The Development Senior Associate is responsible for planning and implementing the annual giving program (The Mustang Fund) and supporting the annual giving events (the golf tournament, the annual gala, and scholarship program) by securing underwriting and sponsorships via leading year-round solicitations and campaigns to diverse constituents to identify, qualify, cultivate, solicit, and steward donors. 

    QUALIFICATIONS:
    • Bachelor’s degree and minimum three years of fundraising experience in annual fund or equivalent with a proven track record. 
    • Demonstrated success in fundraising project management, grant writing, and volunteer management. 
    • Communicates comfortably with school representatives, parents, students, alumni, and representatives from the business community.
    • Self-starting and able to multitask.
    • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
    This position will develop strategies and campaigns (giving for alumni, faculty, staff, community stakeholders, etc.) to secure contributions and manages stewardship of annual donors in recognizing their support.  This role is also tasked with building meaningful and long-lasting relationships with parent volunteers including HC parent, grandparent, and alumni community. 
    Working under the direction of the Director of Development, the Development Senior Associate works in collaboration with the Development staff and members of the Advancement department, which includes Admissions, Marketing, and the Bush Center for Scholars and Leaders.

    Administrative Assistant to Fine Arts
     
    Houston Christian, is accepting applications for Administrative Assistant to Fine Arts. This position performs administrative duties and manages logistics for the Performing and Visual Arts Department. This is a part-time, non-exempt position requiring  20 hours per week during the academic school year and reports to the Fine Arts Director.  This position is open to be filled immediately.
     
    QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPECTATIONS: 
    • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
    • Knowledge and understanding of the fine arts including music, theatre and visual arts is beneficial.
    • Knowledge of website management, experience with Blackbaud is beneficial.

    Applicants should have a comprehensive knowledge of Boys’ Soccer and coaching high school athletes. Successful candidates will demonstrate experience building a highly competitive program and the ability to successfully recruit middle school players. Coaches at HC promote sportsmanship, foster good character in student athletes, provide for the safety and welfare of all participants, and lead as a Christian role model in all settings. The Assistant Coach reports to the Head Coach and Athletic Director. Applicants shall embrace the athletic philosophy of the school and give full support to the multi-sport athlete.
     
    Minimum Requirements:
     
    Broad knowledge and skills in the principles and methods ofBoys’ Soccer program operations.
    Strong communication, public relations, and interpersonal skills.
    Working knowledge of SPC policies and HC policies governing athletics.
    Understand and agree with the philosophy and mission of HC.
    Maintain an active Christian faith that is a role model for HC athletes and exemplifies the HC mission.
    Minimum of two years coaching experience preferred.

  • Campus Security 

    Campus Security 

    Houston Christian (HC) is accepting applications from qualified candidates for the position of Campus Security to begin immediately. The Campus Security position will coordinate with the Facilities Manager, and the Dean of Students to provide a safe and secure environment for students, visitors, and employees, by protecting and securing the campus, preventing or deterring crime, enforcing the campus security plan, and enforcing state and local laws. This is a full-time, non-exempt, 12 month position and reports to the Facilities Manager.
     
    QUALIFICATIONS:
    • 2+ years experience working in a similar position for a school, large complex employer, military, and/or law enforcement experience.  The campus security officer is non-commissioned.
    • Must be organized, able to set priorities,  meet deadlines, multi-task and be a self-starter..  
    • Demonstrated poise, tact and diplomacy. 
    • Strongly prefer successful experience in supervision or safety planning, and work in a fluid, dynamic, environment.  
    • Proficient in basic technology applications (i.e. MS Word, Excel). Google Apps knowledge is necessary (i.e. Google Drive, Google Docs, Gmail).
    • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively utilizing interpersonal skills to maintain effective relationships with all school constituents.  
    • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. 
    • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of situations in which only limited standardization exists.  “Think on your feet.”
    • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.

    Qualified candidates must have  security and safety experience and expertise and be able to build rapport with students, visitors and employees while maintaining professionalism.This position requires a strong attention to detail, a high regard for confidentiality and diplomacy, and a strong self-motivation. Occasional after school, evening or weekend hours will be necessary.
