Dance

balance of athleticism and grace

The success of a well-rounded student is often balanced on athleticism and grace, and we foster both here in the Fine Arts Dance Department of Houston Christian High School.

Houston Christian encourages growth in strength, flexibility, technique, performance, and confidence through a multi-discipline and cumulative approach to dance education. Through our program, dancers gain the knowledge and ability to utilize movement in a practical day-to-day setting along with a variety of performance opportunities, including dance concerts, musicals, conventions, and chapel. Dancers of all skill levels will find a place to be challenged and inspired to learn how to move!

About Our Program

List of 3 items.

  • Dance Classes

Multiple classes provide opportunities for beginner to advanced level dancers.  Dance courses explore ballet, jazz, modern, contemporary, tap, and hip hop techniques. Additionally, we emphasize healthy and positive body awareness by emphasizing dance anatomy and kinesiology in concert with conditioning and injury prevention.  We keep our students abreast of the modern trends in dance while at the same time building an appreciation for the history of dance.  We also teach the fundamentals of choreography and provide an opportunity for our students to showcase their skills in our annual Spring Dance Concert.
  • DOXA Repertory Dance Company

DOXA Repertory Dance Company allows our more advanced dancers to train in a pre-professional setting. DOXA performs year-round at school events, fine arts concerts, musicals, conventions, chapel, and our annual Spring Dance Concert. Dancers train in multiple dance styles, including ballet, jazz, modern and contemporary, with additional emphasis placed on the craft of choreography and pedagogy skills. We aim to broaden the imagination of dance audiences through the presentation of contemporary, diverse, and innovative choreography. DOXA combines multiple genres of artistic expression into a single pre-professional company to break boundaries and provide a unique stage for dancers to express their passion for the arts.
