  Houston Christian Student Lea Garcia Places Third in The Buzz Magazines' 2026 Photo Contest

  Houston Christian High School is proud to celebrate senior Lea Garcia for earning Third Place in the People and Portraits category of The Buzz Magazines' 21st Annual Photo Contest. The competition drew more than 1,500 entries from Houston-area residents ranging in age from 12 to 86, making Lea's recognition a standout achievement.

   

  Lea's photo, titled "Haze," was taken last August in the school's photography room and features her friend Julia Park. Lea described her process: "Our teacher wanted us to try to get different lighting techniques, and I was able to get a beautiful halo lighting. This image brought me joy when I saw it because of Julia's facial expressions and the color of light we chose. The light shows all the little imperfections in her little baby hairs and reflects onto her face. Julia isn't looking directly into the camera, which causes a sense of maybe longing or slight unknown."
  
  

  Judging for the contest is conducted blind by a panel of local professional photographers, who evaluate entries on lighting, focus, exposure, composition, and the overall skill and intentionality behind each image. Lea's ability to craft mood and emotion through light caught their attention among a deeply competitive field.

  Houston Christian Junior Jane Benesh Debuts Original Fashion Collection at HC Fashion Exposé

  Houston Christian High School is proud to celebrate junior Jane Benesh, whose original fashion collection took center stage at the HC Fashion Exposé on September 10th in the Oden Foyer. The evening was a stunning showcase of student creativity, and for those who attended, it was difficult to believe the entire collection came from the mind and hands of a high school junior.

   

  Jane's collection, titled "A Living Canvas: A Fashion Exposé Inspired by the Artistic Works of Claude Monet, Vincent Van Gogh, and Pablo Picasso," features a series of custom dresses and curated looks, each one rooted in an artistic theme she envisioned and developed entirely on her own. Guests had the opportunity to view her portfolio through professional photo displays, take in the designs up close, and hear directly from Jane as she walked through the inspiration, process, and vision behind each piece.

   

  What makes Jane's story particularly remarkable is the path that led to this moment. Already serving as Head Student Costumer for HC Theatreworks, Jane spent the past year in an independent study built entirely around her passion for fashion design. Dr. Linhart recognized that Jane's gifts deserved a space to grow beyond what a traditional classroom could offer.

   

  That willingness to meet a student where her talents are and build something from scratch around them is exactly what Houston Christian strives to do. Jane's exposé is not just a celebration of beautiful design. It is a testament to what happens when a student is given the freedom to pursue excellence and a school is willing to walk alongside her.

   

  Houston Christian could not be more proud of Jane and looks forward to watching where her extraordinary talent takes her next.

  Houston Christian Thespians Serve the Community Through Youth Theatre Camp at SpringSpirit of Houston

  This summer, members of Houston Christian High School's International Thespian Society, ITS Troupe #6706, stepped off their own stage and into the lives of young campers at SpringSpirit of Houston, where they hosted a week-long youth theatre camp. It was a meaningful opportunity for our students to give back, share their passion for the performing arts, and live out the value of community in a tangible way.
  
  

  Throughout the week, Houston Christian's student artists led theatre-skill games, choreographed and taught dance routines, staged scenes, and built genuine relationships with their campers. By the end of the week, those campers had prepared short performances to showcase for their own families, guided every step of the way by our students.
  
  

  Several ITS members took on significant leadership roles to make the week possible. Sam Cessac '28 and Payton Mitchell '27 choreographed and taught an interactive dance routine that had campers on their feet and fully engaged. ITS Co-President Sophie Dickson '27 took on the work of organizing the week's schedule and writing original scripts for the campers to perform, ensuring every child had a moment to shine.
  
  

  For these students, the week was about more than theatre technique. It was about using the gifts they have developed at Houston Christian to serve others and reflect something greater than themselves.
