  • Houston Christian Presents “Dance Expressions” with DOXA Dance Company

Houston Christian High School’s DOXA Dance Company captivated audiences with their latest performance, Dance Expressions, on Wednesday, November 19, at the Pampell Family Chapel. The name “DOXA,” meaning God’s glory or praise in Greek, guides the company’s mission: to use the gifts of movement to convey grace, emotion, and uplifting messages.

This semester’s performance featured faculty and student choreography, blending Contemporary and Jazz dance styles to highlight the discipline, artistry, and heartfelt expression cultivated by the dancers. The evening also included guest performances by Presley Shumate and Sophie Dickson, adding depth and collaboration to the show.

The talented members of DOXA Dance Company include: Leah Babbitt, Molly Darsey, Kenny Erler (Chaplain), Cordelia Espinosa (President), Hannah Halaska, Sara Jones, Alyssa Melton (Vice President), Vivien Ottesen, Lily Stovall, and Charlotte Young. The performance was guided by guest choreographer Marlana Doyle, President of the Institute of Contemporary Dance and Executive & Artistic Director of the Houston Contemporary Dance Company, who brought her professional expertise to the stage.
Through each movement, the dancers demonstrated the connection between faith, discipline, and artistic expression, offering an evening that was both inspiring and visually stunning. The Houston Christian community celebrated the dedication, talent, and creativity of these student artists and their mentors.
Dance Expressions reaffirmed DOXA Dance Company’s commitment to using performance as a medium to honor God’s glory while fostering artistic growth among students.
