Dr. Darren Price Shares Insights on Christian School Leadership Through CESA
Houston Christian High School Principal Dr. Darren Price recently contributed to the Council on Educational Standards and Accountability (CESA) with his article, “Leading Up: Why the Best Leaders Let Others Lead Them.” The article explores how effective leadership extends beyond traditional hierarchies, emphasizing the importance of humility, collaboration, and empowering others to contribute their strengths.
Dr. Price examines the concept of “leading up,” the practice of supporting and influencing those in positions of leadership. He explains how Christian schools can cultivate a culture where ideas flow in every direction, leaders welcome feedback, and individuals are encouraged to take ownership of their work. By creating an environment of trust and shared responsibility, school leaders can strengthen their organizations while helping others grow in their own leadership abilities.
These principles reflect the broader mission of Christian education: to lead, mentor, and guide the next generation of Christian leaders. At Houston Christian, developing students goes beyond academic preparation. It means equipping young men and women with the character, wisdom, and faith to lead with humility, serve others, and make a meaningful impact in their communities and beyond.
Dr. Price’s commitment to the future of Christian education extends to the development of fellow school leaders. Houston Christian will host the Engaging Christian Leadership Conference on February 8–9, 2027, bringing Christian school leaders together to explore the theme Leading Through and Leading Up. The conference will continue the conversation around leadership practices that strengthen schools, empower individuals, and advance the mission of Christian education.
