Houston Christian High School: A Legacy of Leadership

As the first interdenominational Christian High School in the city, Houston Christian High School proudly leads a Legacy of Leadership for the past 25 years. Our identity as “Houston Christian” within the city of Houston and beyond is synonymous with a heritage of excellence, independence, and Christian leadership.

Houston Christian High School (HCHS) is an independent, nonprofit, coeducational day school serving nearly 500 students in the ninth through twelfth grades. HCHS is accredited by the Independent Schools Association of the Southwest (ISAS) and is a member of the National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS), the Council of Educational Standards and Accountability (CESA), and the Southwest Preparatory Conference (SPC).

Over the summer, Houston Baptist University President, Dr. Robert B. Sloan, contacted Head of School, Dr. Stephen M. Livingston, informing us of the university’s plan to change its identity this fall. Houston Baptist University will soon announce that it will assume a new name, Houston Christian University. It is important to emphasize that Houston Christian High School is an independent school and is unaffiliated with any other educational institution. While HCHS had no involvement in the decision to rebrand Houston Baptist University, we are appreciative of Dr. Sloan’s open communication, as his gesture of goodwill speaks to our collective commitment to the larger work of Christian education within Houston.

We take great pride in our role as the original trailblazer of Christian Leadership, the first to hold the “Houston Christian” name, and our heritage. Twenty-five years ago, a group of pastors bravely launched a school to provide rigorous, Christ-centered education for Houston families. Two years later, Houston Christian High School purchased a forty-five-acre tract of land on the West Sam Houston Parkway, and construction began on our expansive campus. Since then, Houston Christian High School has grown in student population, campus facilities, and academic and extracurricular programming, fulfilling its mission of providing dynamic, empowering education to the Greater Houston area.

As Houston Baptist University continues to unveil its brand identity as Houston Christian University, we will revisit our visual identity to control the impact of our brand, keeping you informed of our progress. We are strongly committed to our school’s mission and determined to continue our known independence and heritage throughout the city of Houston and beyond.

Thank you for your unwavering support of HCHS's mission, vision, and God’s unique calling for our school.
