HoS Update: Upcoming Schedule

Dear Houston Christian Community,

We have successfully completed nearly three weeks of school! Congratulations! In this ever-changing season, you’ve done a tremendous job by staying flexible and positive to begin this semester. I want to give special thanks and recognition, first to our students for their attention to proper safety protocols, and second to the amazing faculty and staff that go above and beyond each day to ensure student welfare and academic growth.

This extra effort and attention to health and safety protocols enabled us to report zero current COVID-19 cases today. Everyone’s cooperation in health screening, hand sanitation, and social distancing created this positive atmosphere for teaching and learning. I am also pleased to see that COVID-19 cases citywide have declined. Therefore, we are confident to announce instructional Mode A will start Thursday, Sept. 17.

We will remain in Mode B from Tuesday, Sept. 8 through Tuesday, Sept. 15. Wednesday, Sept. 16 will be a teacher workday with only invited students allowed on campus. On Thursday, Sept. 17, we will transition to Mode A - Houston Christian’s modified block schedule four days a week - Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday. For the near future, Wednesdays will remain as teacher workdays with only invited students permitted on campus for special meetings, chapels, and assemblies.

We will also reopen the campus to a limited number of visitors on Wednesdays starting Sept. 9. Moms in Prayer, the Mustang Parent Council, and the Dads Club may return to campus for meetings but not for social events. Likewise, parent meetings with counselors, teachers or administrators may also be scheduled on Wednesdays. In the near future, look for more information on spectator attendance at sporting events. Otherwise, we ask that parents not visit campus for other reasons or activities such as chapel and lunch periods. To schedule a Wednesday meeting, kindly contact the appropriate office overseeing that area of campus life.

While we look forward to reuniting, we will continue to closely monitor citywide trends and Houston Christian COVID-19 cases to ensure community safety. Should conditions worsen, we may be required to return to Mode B or Mode C. We will keep you updated on our current case count in bi-weekly reports in The HC Connection. In the meantime, we ask that you consider the entire school community when making plans moving forward, especially during this upcoming Labor Day weekend. Everyone must take personal responsibility for the welfare of our community.

Thank you once again for your patience and understanding as we navigate this season of change. We will be in contact after Labor Day with more details about transitioning to Mode A.

See you soon Mustangs!
