We do not come to this decision lightly. The Board of Trustees Executive Committee and the full board met with both groups fully supporting a return in Mode B. Likewise, a number of parent leaders fully endorsed this step forward. The hybrid model reduces the student density on campus and allows for greater social distancing and safety protocols. We also developed benchmarks and metrics for transitions between Modes. Our method takes into account state mandates, weekly projections of Texas Medical Center’s data while monitoring trends and patterns in our own community and across the city. We may adjust our approach throughout the school year using these benchmarks and will work toward bringing students back on campus together as quickly and safely as possible.
To ensure our students are prepared for the new protocols and safety measures, we will focus the first week on extensive health/safety training and orientation. The first week will not follow the traditional hybrid schedule; please see this schedule. We will also limit events on Community Wednesdays and non-student/non-employee visitors the first few weeks of school. Once the community adjusts to the new protocols, we will update you on possible changes.
Houston Christian is committed to working with each family to ensure all students have a successful and productive year. It is our hope that every student rejoins us on campus, but we fully understand that each family has unique circumstances making it difficult for some to attend school. If you choose for your student to remain at home, we will do our best to provide a supportive learning environment through filmed classes and at-home work. However, with a majority of our students on campus, instruction will not be taught online with quite the same level of engagement as in the spring.
