HoS COVID 19 Update - April 27

Commencement

Our current commencement ceremony for Friday, May 22, has been cancelled and will be rescheduled.  We remain committed, if at all possible, to holding a graduation celebration when it is safe for our seniors and their families.  We have set Friday, June 26, and Friday, August 7, as potential dates for a 9 a.m. ceremony.  In order to facilitate the possible continuation of social distancing guidelines, we will hold the event outdoors at Houston Christian’s football stadium, strictly limiting the number of guests to school personnel, graduates and their siblings and parents. Inclement weather may change the time and location of the ceremony to 7 p.m. on the evening of these stated dates. The event will be livestreamed for friends, extended family and guests unable to attend in person. Further information will be provided in the coming weeks to seniors and their families.

Prom

We regret to inform you that prom will be cancelled this year. I know this is a disappointing turn of events, but we are looking at alternative ways the seniors can have a final social gathering prior to graduation. Further planning is underway and more information will be forthcoming.

Award Programs

The end-of-year awards are a special occasion for the entire Houston Christian community where school leaders are privileged to honor students’ academic, artistic, and athletic achievements. In light of current circumstances, Houston Christian will air a series of brief award presentations that will begin by recognizing Academic awards, starting at 5 p.m. for 5 days, from Monday, May 11, through Friday, May 15. The schedule of awards by department will be sent shortly. The Fine Arts and Athletics Departments have combined their award programs, which will be presented to the community on May 22, at a time to be announced later. These presentations will be pre-recorded to watch at your leisure.

Students (and their families) receiving awards will be informed of the day they will be recognized. For recipients receiving medals, trophies or certificates, Houston Christian will send the award by mail or hold them on campus until students are able to receive them.
