For the first time in Houston’s ComedySportz history a private school has taken the ComedySportz City Championship!
In a season of 14 wins and 2 losses, Houston Christian High School kept a steady streak to the ComedySportz City Tournament in May where they clinched the Golden Tray of victory! The varsity team of 10 students won after games of Battle Scene Galactica and Fairytale Replay.
“I knew we could do it,” said Avery Minotti, rising junior and team member for two years. “We had such a great diverse group of people all working toward the same goal. It was exciting to be a part of and I can’t wait until next year. We’re going to be even better!”
The Houston Christian ComedySportz team began in the fall of 2011 with the hiring of Bobby Linhart, director of Theatre Arts at the school. Linhart credits this year’s success to how much the team wanted the win and the chemistry they built while practicing together.
“The students set a goal this year of making it to the city tournament. Their commitment and camaraderie only strengthened as they grew closer to their goal,” Linhart said. “The team loves being together and I think that showed on stage.”
ComedySportz is a worldwide organization that performs and teaches improv through games where teams score points based off of technique and audience participation.
