HC Welcomes New Football Coach

Houston Christian is proud to welcome David Nelson as our new head football coach. Nelson, named "Coach of the Year" in 2015 by the Houston Touchdown Club, was formerly head coach at Northland Christian School.
David Nelson is a passionate and motivated head football coach with more than a decade of experience as a teacher, administrator and coach for schools focused on providing Christian education to students throughout Houston. In his seven years as a head football coach, two of his teams have made state championship appearances culminating in a TAPPS Division III State Championship in 2016.

"I'm thrilled to join the team at Houston Christian High School where their commitment to leadership and excellence is the perfect combination to build an award-winning football program," Nelson said.

Coach Nelson earned a master's in education administration from Prairie View A&M University in 2001 and his bachelor's degree in kinesiology from Sam Houston State University in 1996. He served in multiple roles during his 14 years at Northland Christian School, including football coach, athletics director, and Bible teacher. Prior to working at Northland, he was football coach, English teacher, and ultimately an assistant principal at Westfield High School, but began his career at Splendora High School where he coached football, baseball and taught U.S. Government.

He and his wife, Tamara, have four daughters Hunter, Sadie, Emma, and Kallee and a dog, Rudy. He looks forward to developing relationships with the players and their families and creating a football program that teaches young men how to win on the field, in life, and for eternity.

"Coach Nelson's experience and passion for both Christian education and athletics is exactly what Houston Christian is looking for to build an exceptional and dynamic football program," said Dan Lee, Houston Christian athletics director. "We can't wait to see where he'll take the Mustangs!"
