One of the shining stars of the school, the Houston Christian Choir is the largest and oldest student organization on campus and is known throughout the state as a world-class musical ensemble.
Houston Christian High School’s choral music program develops productive citizens in a nurturing Christian atmosphere by emphasizing the value and unique individual creativity present in each student. Through rigorous curriculum of vocal enhancement and literature, the Houston Christian Choir cultivates each student’s awareness and appreciation of all the fine arts, along with group excellence to the Glory of God.
Houston Christian believes fine arts are essential in a well-rounded education and all choir students are challenged to acknowledge the responsibility to use their talents and knowledge in the service of God and others.
If you’re just starting out or an old pro, singers of all kinds are welcome to increase their skill level in one of the most popular activities on campus. Singers are not required to audition, however, they are required to attend daily rehearsals during the Fine Arts Block before school throughout the year. Chorale members may sing the national anthem at some home football games.
All members of the groups listed below must be enrolled in Chorale and attend its daily rehearsals prior to regular classes. Students must be granted approval to audition for the groups below by the director, who selects students based on vocal and sight-reading skills, as well as behavior, commitment, and overall musical experience. Additional rehearsals and performances outside school hours may be required from members.
This group is reserved for the most experienced singers within the Houston Christian High School choral program. Singers in this choir are advanced musicians who have strong mature voices and sight-reading skills. This ensemble specializes in pop, jazz, Broadway, Madrigal, and advanced choral repertoire. This collection of talented singers regularly competes and performs throughout the city and state.
Auditions are held in May for the next school year.
