Houston Christian High School (HC) is accepting applications for the full-time position of Dance Instructor to begin in August 2021. This position reports to the Performing Arts Department Chair and Principal and works in collaboration with other Visual and Performing Arts Teachers. Experience in teaching different levels of Dance is preferred and/or department leadership is beneficial.
Bachelor’s Degree, in Education, Dance or other relevant area, Master’s Degree preferred.
Teacher certification or equivalent required.
Classroom Experience (Experience in a high school classroom.)
A wide range of choreography and instruction experience in Ballet, Jazz, Tap, Modern and Contemporary, Hip Hop, Novelty, World and Social Dance is strongly preferred.
Staging, lighting, and cleaning experience is beneficial.
Excellent verbal, visual, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
Proficient in basic technology applications, electronic grade book and curricular software and hardware) (i.e. MS Word, Excel). Google Apps knowledge is beneficial (i.e. Google Drive, Google Docs, Gmail).
Represent the school to the community and prospective students.

Qualified candidates must be skilled to provide Dance instruction, run an effective recruiting program, and be flexible to work with other Fine Arts personnel. Candidates should also possess excellent communication skills, a willingness to mentor students and the ability to incorporate 21st Century Skills into the curriculum. The successful candidate will be energetic, creative, and possess a vision for excellence in Performing Arts at the high school level. A strong work ethic, a desire to achieve success, and a commitment to ongoing professional growth is necessary. Contribution to the life of the school outside the classroom is expected. Occasional after school, evening or weekend hours will be necessary. Some travel may be required.
Introduction to Dance
Provides the foundation in dance technique, terminology, choreography, performance, and dance history. Students explore various dance genres including ballet, jazz, hip hop, theater, and lyrical. Intro to Dance students perform at least two routines in the Spring Dance Concert.
A mid-level dance course focusing on achieving greater body awareness and control, improving technique and flexibility, understanding terminology and the choreography process, and becoming a more proficient and dynamic performer. Intermediate Dance students perform three routines in the Spring Dance Concert.
Silver Spurs Drill Team (meets during Fine Arts block in the morning before school)
Come and dance with the Silver Spurs Drill Team! We will learn different dance styles, as well as prepare to perform at football games, pep rallies, and competition. You will get lots of opportunities to perform throughout the year. Grades are NOT awarded for this Fine Arts block class. Tryouts are required.
Doxa Repertory Dance Company
Doxa Repertory Dance Company is a performance-based dance program showcasing the talents and strengths of its members through a variety of dance styles. Being selected as a member of Doxa is a privilege and with it comes a responsibility to oneself, fellow company members, and one’s craft. As a Doxa member students will continue to hone dance technique, while exploring the creative process of choreography and seeking opportunities to share that choreography with others.
