  • Band Director

    Band Director
     
    Houston Christian (HC) is accepting applications for the position of Band Director to begin in August 2020.This position reports to the Performing Arts Department Chair and Principal and works in collaboration with other Performing Arts Faculty. This is a full-time, exempt position. The Band Director is responsible for directing the school’s Band program, teaching drumline, jazz band, and other classes as assigned within the performing arts.  The Band Director will also be responsible for preparing students for competitions and performances. The Band Director prepares and directs the band for football games and pep rallies; this does not involve marching. Qualified candidates should be skilled and certified to provide instrumental instruction and run an effective band performing and recruiting program.  The specific teaching assignment will be determined according to department needs and flexibility of the department
     
    Qualifications:
    • Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Music, or other relevant area, Master’s Degree preferred.
    • Teacher certification or equivalent preferred.
    • Classroom experience in an educational setting preferred.

  • Distinguished Scholars Program Director

    Distinguished Scholars Program Director
     
    Houston Christian (HC) is accepting applications from qualified candidates for the position of Distinguished Scholars Program Director to begin in August 2020. Under the guidance of the Executive Director of the BCSL and the Principal, the Distinguished Scholars Program Director is responsible for the development, administration, and  implementation of all facets of the Distinguished Scholars Program, including recruiting students for the program, teacher training, and curriculum development of lessons. The DSP Director will provide oversight of all program courses, deliver the daily instruction for assigned classes, and work in collaboration with the Executive Director of the BCSL for the Distinguished Scholars Program. The Director will provide vision for HC’s Distinguished Scholars Program, develop new initiatives, as appropriate to further the mission of HC, and enhance the student experience and training in the program. This is a full-time, exempt, 10 1/2 month position.
     
    QUALIFICATIONS:
    • Bachelor's Degree, Master’s Degree, preferred. 
    • Teacher certification or equivalent, preferred.
    • Classroom experience required. Experience high school and with gifted and talented students preferred.
    • Teacher certification or equivalent, preferred.
    • Extensive knowledge and experience of research methodology and the writing process and able to mentor and guide a senior thesis, or direct a student research group.
    • Strong work ethic, energetic and enthusiastic, flexible

  • Program for College Readiness (PCR) Director

    Program for College Readiness (PCR) Director
     
    Houston Christian (HC) is accepting applications from qualified candidates for the position of Program for College Readiness (PCR) Director to begin in August 2020. Under the guidance of the Principal, the PCR Directoris responsible for the development, administration, and  implementation of all facets of the Program for College Readiness (PCR). This is an exempt, full-time, 10-½ month position. The PCR Director will provide oversight of all PCR courses, faculty, and staff. The position may involve some classroom instruction and consists heavily of program administration and collaboration with HC faculty.
     
    QUALIFICATIONS:
    • Master’s degree in education; Special Education, preferred.
    • Experience with instructional strategies and working with students with learning differences.
    • Strong communication and public relations skills with ability to communicate effectively in both written and oral forms with all levels of administration, internally and externally to the school, parents and collegiate personnel.

  • Library Media Specialist

    Library Media Specialist
     
    Houston Christian High School (HC) is accepting applications from qualified candidates for the Library Media Specialist (LMS). The Library Media Specialist ensures the school library program is aligned with the mission, vision, and goals of HC and is an integral component of the instructional program. This position is responsible for oversight and administration of all library, information, and media resources. As a leader in the school community, the LMS serves as an advocate for the school library, creating an environment that encourages the use of educational technology to engage students and improve learning. The Library Media Specialist oversees Library aides, volunteers, and student assistants; works in close collaboration with the faculty and campus leaders; and reports to the Principal. This is a full-time, exempt position and may include teaching one section, based on experience and qualifications. 
     
    The Library Media Specialist (LMS) at HC will be an active leader within the school community, an advocate for the school library program, and a professional member of the school library community. Expectations include creating an environment that is conducive to active and participatory learning, resource-based instructional practices, and collaboration with teaching faculty. As an expert in providing guidance and expertise in the selection, acquisition, evaluation, and organization of information resources and technologies and oversight in the ethical use of information the LMS will create an environment where collaboration and creative problem solving thrive. The LMS will help to empower students to become critical thinkers, enthusiastic readers, skillful researchers, and ethical users of information. The LMS will work with faculty to build and strengthen connections between student information and research needs, curricular content, learning outcomes, and information resources and with administration and members of the learning community to define the policies of the school library program, and to guide and direct all activities related to it. 
     
    QUALIFICATIONS:
    • Masters degree or equivalent, degree in library science preferred.
    • Education degree and teacher certification or equivalent.
    • Five or more years of classroom teaching experience, secondary experience preferred.
    • Excellent verbal, visual, written and interpersonal communication skills.

  • Spanish Instructor

    Houston Christian (HC) is accepting applications for the position of Spanish Instructor to begin the 20-21 academic year. This position reports to the World Languages Department Chair and Principal and works in collaboration with other World Language teachers and Faculty. Applicants should have the ability to teach all levels of high school Spanish (including Pre-AP and AP). Previous experience in developing and instructing an AP Spanish program is strongly preferred.

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Spanish, or other relevant areas, Master's Degree preferred.

    • Classroom Experience (Experience in a high school classroom and with PAP/AP Spanish is preferred).

    Latin Instructor

    Houston Christian (HC) is accepting applications for the position of Latin Instructor to begin the 20-21 academic year. This position reports to the World Languages Department Chair and Principal and works in collaboration with other World Language teachers and Faculty. Applicants should have the ability to teach all levels of high school Latin (including Pre-AP and AP). Previous experience in developing and maintaining a Latin program is strongly preferred.

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Latin, or other relevant areas, Master's Degree preferred

    • Classroom Experience (Experience in a high school classroom is beneficial. AP experience is prefered.)

    Math Instructor (Upper Level)

This position reports to the Math Department Chair and Principal and works in collaboration with other Math Teachers and Faculty. This is a full-time, exempt position. Experience in teaching different levels of high school Math and with advanced placement and upper level courses is preferred.  The specific teaching assignment will be determined according to department needs and department leadership opportunities may be available.

    Qualifications:
    • Bachelor’s Degree, in Education, Math, or other relevant areas, Master’s Degree preferred.
    • Teacher certification or equivalent preferred.
    • Classroom Experience (Experience at the Advanced Placement level is strongly preferred)

  • Leadership Instructor

    Leadership Instructor

    Houston Christian is accepting applications from qualified candidates for Leadership Instructor. This position is to begin the 2020-21 academic school year. The Leadership Instructor will build a foundation for spiritual growth and leadership development through teaching the five dimensions of leadership at various levels. This position reports to the Bible Department Chair and Principal, and works in collaboration with the Executive Director of The Bush Center on BCSL programs, other Bible teachers and Faculty, as required. This is a full-time, exempt position. This instructor should demonstrate qualifications and experience to instruct a variety of courses and topics within a 9-12 educational setting that develop students’ faith in relevant and meaningful ways, linking leadership and faith. Participation in extracurricular activities with students is expected and supports the development of student relationships.  In addition to classroom instruction, this position will organize and deliver the curriculum for the International Student Leadership Program and lead students via an online format for learning leadership.
     
    Qualifications:
    • Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Religion, History, Leadership or other relevant area, Master’s Degree preferred.
    • Teacher certification or equivalent preferred.

    Houston Christian (HC) is accepting applications for the position of History Instructor to begin in August 2020.This position reports to the History Department Chair and Principal and works in collaboration with other History teachers and Faculty. This is a full-time, exempt position. This teacher will most likely be teaching World History and Pre-AP World History to freshmen students. The Women’s Chaplain exhibits a desire to nurture young people in their Christian faith, enabling her to connect with students through meaningful relationships. The Men's and Women’s Chaplains work together as a team to lead spiritual life programs on campus, oversee weekly chapel services, coordinate a discipleship ministry, encourage growth in faith, counsel young people, minister to families in need and support the administration, faculty and staff with our responsibility to educate students.

  • Bible Instructor

     
     
    Houston Christian is accepting applications from qualified candidates for Bible Instructor to begin the 2020-21 academic school year. The  Bible Instructor reports to the Bible Department Chair and Principal and works in collaboration with other Bible teachers and Faculty. This is a full-time, exempt position. This instructor should demonstrate qualifications and experience to instruct a variety of courses and topics within a 9-12 educational setting that develop students’ faith in relevant and meaningful ways.   The specific teaching assignment will be determined according to department needs. 
     
    Qualifications:
    • Bachelor’s Degree, in Education, Religion, History or other relevant area, Master’s Degree preferred.
    • Teacher certification or equivalent preferred.
    • Classroom Experience (Experience in a high school classroom preferred.)
    • Proficient in basic technology applications, electronic grade book and curricular software and hardware) (i.e. MS Word, Excel). Google Apps knowledge is beneficial (i.e. Google Drive, Google Docs, Gmail).
    • Excellent verbal, visual, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
    • Represent the school in a positive light.
    Qualified candidates must be skilled and have a passion to provide class instruction. Effective organizational and presentation skills are necessary. Candidates should also possess excellent communication skills, a willingness to mentor students and the ability to incorporate 21st Century Skills into the curriculum. The successful candidate will be energetic and creative and possess a vision for excellence in academics at the high school level, a strong work ethic, and a desire to achieve success. Contribution to the life of the school outside the classroom is expected. Occasional after school, evening or weekend hours will be necessary. Experience and willingness to coach an athletic sport is beneficial and could be compensated with a stipend.

    Athletic Administrative Assistant

    Houston Christian High School (HC) is now accepting applications from qualified candidates for the position of Athletic AssistantThis is a non-exempt position and reports to the Athletic Director. This position supports all members, coaches, and teams of the Athletic Department and manages the logistics of the department. Occasional after school, evening or weekend hours will be necessary. A strong knowledge and understanding of competitive sports is beneficial and the successful candidate will be a self-starter, flexible and personable.  This position may be combined with a coaching position, which may be compensated with an additional stipend.

    Minimum Requirements:
    • Knowledge of website management
    • A high level of integrity, diplomacy, and initiative.  
    • Strong organizational and communication skills and detail oriented.  
    • Ability to manage multiple tasks and consistently meet deadlines.  
    • Flexibility, sense of humor, and a willingness to assist with administrative tasks in a fast-paced team environment.
