Cross Country - Coed Varsity
Houston Christian Cross Country seeks to help runners reach their God-given potential by pursuing four key principles:
Win or lose, we compete for the glory of Christ. We compete in such a way that our faith is evident in our quality of play and character both on and off the course. We will pursue excellence as a demonstration of our Christian character. Christian excellence is not a hindrance to our athletic abilities, but the only true foundation upon which we can build a healthy pursuit of competitiveness and victory.
Utmost effort means coming to the finish and knowing in your heart that you could not have given anything more. Utmost effort involves the discernment to know when to run your own race and the courage to know when to go beyond yourself and push aside obstacles and doubts that stand in your way. Utmost effort involves focus, intentionality, and decisiveness at all times and in regards to all aspects of your training.
A team first approach compels us to run for something greater than ourselves. There is no room within a team first approach for selfishness, egotism, or envy. A team first approach demonstrates an eagerness to sacrafice personal glory for the welfare of all.
Success cannot possibly be limited to whether or not a championship is won. Winning is always a goal, not a purpose. Instead, we seek to be the best place in the country to compete, regardless of the race result. We play a sport we love with teammates we love for a God we love. Only when we accomplish this can we say we have truly succeeded.
