Houston Christian Senior to Pitch in the Perfect Game All-American Classic (Varsity Baseball, JV Baseball)

HOUSTON, August 12, 2011 – Houston Christian’s Sr. Mustang pitcher, Mitchell Traver, and as many as 20 future first round draft picks will participate in the Perfect Game All-American Classic presented by RawlingsÒ on Sunday, Aug. 14 at 7:08 p.m. (CDT) at beautiful PETCOÒ Park, the downtown home of the San Diego Padres professional baseball team.

“These are the best young baseball players in the United States,” said coach Joe Rodden of Houston Christian High School. “By far, this is the most elite all-star game in the country for high-schoolers; it is a great honor for Mitch to play this Sunday, I’ll be watching!”

Mitchell Traver pitched last year for the Mustangs, and is beginning his senior baseball campaign with Coach Rodden during the upcoming school year. Houston Christian ballplayers Brian Trieglaff and Mitchell Traver have both committed to play baseball at TCU after they graduate. Mitchell’s brother, Spencer Traver is an 11th grader at HC and will return with Mitchell to school on Tuesday.

“Traver and Trieglaff are a dynamic duo, and they are just beginning to realize their potential, we are looking forward to next year’s season, without a doubt,” said Joe Rodden, Head baseball coach, “We are very blessed to have such talent on the mound.”

The PG All-American Classic presented by Rawlings will be played Sunday, Aug. 14, 7:08 p.m. (CDT), first pitch. The game is expected to attract thousands of fans, hundreds of professional baseball’s scouting community, and an assortment of college coaches. It will be televised live on the CBS Sports Network.

A record 18 All-American Classic alumni were first round or first round—compensation selections in the 2011 draft and 13 of those 18 played in the 2010 game. A total of 98 All-American Classic alumni have been first round or first round—compensation selections since 2004. Players are considered the top baseball prospects in the United States, and HC is honored to have one of its best players highlighted on Sunday.
